Call for Papers: Archaeo-Informatics 2024 “Use and Challenges of AI in Archaeology”

BIAA

14 June 2024

The Archaeo-Informatics is a conference series which is deliberating the challenges of digital archaeology with a focus on projects in Türkiye. The conference aim is to highlight the problems and challenges of digital archaeology and is intended as a forum for exchanging experience and information. The hybrid conference will take place between the 25th and 26th of November 2024 at the Department of Settlement Archaeology of the Middle East Technical University, in Ankara.

Modern archaeology is increasingly reliant on digital technology, from the documentation of finds and features – often directly in the field – through subsequent analyses and up to the resulting publications. This is, of course, quite wonderful, but this trend also presents archaeologists with previously unexpected challenges. Under the title “Archaeo-Informatics: Challenges in Digital Archaeology”, the Istanbul Department of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI), the Department of Settlement Archaeology of the Middle East Technical University (METU) and since 2024 also the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA) are organising a conference series in which we aim to highlight digital archaeology’s problems and challenges and provide a platform for discussing these issues and developing new solutions.
