Support is intended for postdoctoral level researchers that address one or more of the Institute’s current Strategic Research Initiatives. Proposals may relate to all historical periods up to and including contemporary Turkey. The BIAA is especially interested in supporting projects that employ comparative and cross-disciplinary approaches, as well as those that seek to establish collaborations with other institutions with a view to generating larger overall project funding. Organisers of potentially diverse and collaborative projects should identify the main strand of their investigation and the main research questions for which BIAA funding is being sought.
Please note that BIAA has streamlined its grant giving processes and there will only be one call per financial year. If you would like to apply for BIAA grant funding in 2024/25, please respond to this call. Applicants are also advised to carefully review the Notes to Applicants as these have recently changed.
Researchers across the entire career spectrum (from postdoctoral fellows to senior academics), of any nationality working in the UK or abroad for a UK Higher Education Institution or UK based research organisation, are eligible to apply for a BIAA Research Grant. Projects should be located within the field of the arts, humanities and the social sciences and should be related to and/or undertaken in Turkey and the Black Sea region.

The deadline for receipt of the application form, budget and references is 29th October 2023 at 23:59. The BIAA Research Committee will not consider applications received after this. Research funded by the Institute under this award scheme must be undertaken in the period between April 2024 and March 2025.
