The BIAA is delighted to announce the signing of a new Memorandum of Agreement with Bilkent University, Ankara, for the establishment of a joint fellowship scheme.

Each year, the fellowship will support a UK Higher Education Institution-affiliated postdoctoral scholar to undertake 12 months’ research on any topic within the arts, humanities and social sciences that aligns with the BIAA’s Strategic Research Initiatives and focuses on Türkiye and/or the Black Sea region.  The fellowship will be based at the BIAA’s research centre in Ankara and the relevant department within Bilkent University.

Announcing the Fellowship, BIAA Director Dr Lutgarde Vandeput MBE said:

‘This new Memorandum of Understanding will allow early-career scholars affiliated to UK Higher Education Institutions to become emersed in the academic life of a renowned Turkish university here in Ankara.  It will offer a unique opportunity for successful applicants to learn more about research cultures and communities outside of the UK, and grant early-career scholars access to two excellent research facilities: the BIAA David French Library and Bilkent University Library.

This Memorandum also demonstrates the BIAA’s commitment to building links between UK and Turkish Higher Education Institutions, and to supporting early career scholars as they take their first steps in academia.’

The first BIAA-Bilkent University Joint Fellowship will commence in September 2024.
