Waad Salam, a student at the Social Sciences University of Ankara, writes about her experience interning with the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA).
During my internship at the BIAA, I had the opportunity to work in the library and archives, where my main tasks involved organising and categorising various historical documents, photos, archives, etc. My favourite part of this experience was delving into old letters and witnessing the interactions of the the past, especially arguments, which I found very amusing, specifically the language used. It’s intriguing to see how some human concerns remain constant through time.
Being surrounded by history and interacting with it first-hand has been an incredibly enriching experience. It feels like a journey through time, I highly recommend this internship to others, as I feel it provides a unique perspective on historical progression and reminds us of the advancements we often take for granted.
