Survey of the Aqueduct at Amasya

Location: Amasya; Amasya Province

Years: 1985

Project Director: Oliver and Caroline Nicholson

Funding: BIAA

In August 1985, Oliver and Caroline Nicholson travelled to various sites connected to the Forty Martyrs of Sebasteia.  One of their trips was to Amasya, where they conducted an investigation of the aqueduct.  They found that much of the aqueduct could still be seen, cut into the cliff face along the riverbank, and observed also the profile of an arch.  No pottery or coins were discovered.
