The British Institute at Ankara supports, enables and encourages research in Turkey and the Black Sea region in a wide range of fields including archaeology, ancient and modern history, heritage management, social sciences and contemporary issues in public policy and political sciences. Founded in 1948, the BIAA was incorporated in the 1956 cultural agreement between the Republic of Turkey and the United Kingdom. The BIAA is one of the British Academy's overseas Institutes. It has offices in Ankara and London, and a dedicated staff of experts from a wide variety of academic and cultural backgrounds.  Information about the Institute’s activities can be found on our website at .

The BIAA Honorary Secretary acts as the Company Secretary and is a pivotal role within the Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for the organisation of the Institute in close partnership with the Chair, Honorary Treasurer, Director, and London Manager to ensure its effective and efficient function. We are looking for someone who is thorough yet adaptable, committed to high standards and an active team player, astute and able to communicate at all levels, but most importantly someone who shares our values.
It is hoped that the Honorary Secretary will take up their post at or as soon as possible after the 2020 AGM in December.
