Applicants must be UK or EU citizens, or should have a close current connection with a UK Higher Education Institution.  We would also consider a secondment arrangement with a UK Higher Education Institute or other appropriate organisation.

The Assistant Director is required to be resident in Ankara, and is responsible to the Director in Ankara.  In addition to the Director, the local staff includes experienced administrative and library/archive personnel, post-doctoral fellows and other researchers based at the BIAA.

 

13/02/2019 30/04/2019 BIAA Research Grants

Researchers across the entire career spectrum (from postdoctoral fellows to senior academics), of any nationality working in the UK or abroad for a UK Higher Education Institution, as well as researchers directing projects that are formally and demonstrably based in the UK, are eligible to apply for a BIAA Research Grant.  Projects should be located within the field of the arts, humanities and the social sciences and should be related to and/or undertaken in Turkey and the Black Sea region.

13/02/2019 30/04/2019 BIAA Study Grants

Researchers across the entire career spectrum (from postdoctoral fellows to senior academics) of any nationality working in the UK or abroad for a UK Higher Education Institution, as well as researchers directing projects that are formally and demonstrably based in the UK, are eligible to apply for a BIAA Study Grant.  Projects should be located within the field of the arts, humanities and the social sciences, and should be related to and/or undertaken in Turkey and the Black Sea region.

13/02/2019 30/04/2019 BIAA Turkish and Black Sea Scholars' Fund

Grants are available to support scholars of postgraduate status and above from countries bordering the Black Sea.  Research should be located within the field of the arts, humanities and the social sciences.

13/02/2019 30/04/2019 BIAA Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies Fieldwork Award

Support is available to enable an undergraduate or postgraduate student to participate in a fieldwork project in Turkey or the Black Sea region that relates to Hellenic studies (in its widest sense). The applicant must be based at a UK Higher Education Institute.

13/02/2019 30/04/2019 BIAA David French Scholarship Two travel grants of up to £1,000 each are available to support undergraduate or postgraduate students to develop knowledge and understanding of the region's history, geography, culture and environment.  Applications relating to an individual’s first visit to Turkey for study purposes will be particularly welcomed.

 Applicants should be enrolled on a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme at a recognised UK Higher Education Institution. The fieldwork or other research activity for which support is sought may relate to any historical period up to and including contemporary Turkey.

13/02/2019 30/04/2019 BIAA Doughty-Wylie Scholarship Two grants of up to £1,000 each are available to support postgraduate students in any field of the arts, humanities and social sciences to participate in fieldwork or other research activity in Turkey. In addition to the grant, the BIAA will offer successful applicants free accommodation at the BIAA hostel in Ankara.

Applicants should be British citizens enrolled on a Master’s or PhD programme at a recognised UK Higher Education Institution. The fieldwork or other research activity for which support is sought may relate to any historical period up to and including contemporary Turkey.
