Support is intended for researchers who address one or more of the Institute’s current Strategic Research Initiatives.
Proposals may relate to all historical periods up to and including contemporary Türkiye. The BIAA is especially interested in supporting projects that employ comparative and cross-disciplinary approaches, as well as those that seek to establish collaborations with other institutions with a view to generating larger overall project funding. Organisers of potentially diverse and collaborative projects should identify the main strand of their investigation and the main research questions for which BIAA funding is being sought.
Researchers across the entire career spectrum (from postdoctoral fellows to senior academics), of any nationality working in the UK or abroad for a UK Higher Education Institution or UK based research organisation, are eligible to apply for a BIAA Research Grant. Projects should be located within the field of the arts, humanities and the social sciences and should be related to and/or undertaken in Türkiye and the Black Sea region.

The deadline to receive the application form, budget, and references is 1st November 2026 at 23:59 (UK time). The BIAA Research Committee will not consider applications received after this. Research funded by the Institute under this award scheme must be undertaken in the period between 1st April 2027 and 31st March 2028.
