There are many ancient city sites in Isauria, but their identities are often controversial.
This talk discusses some of these identifications, looking at the reasons for the difficulties as well as attempts to resolve them. This involves a combination of literary and epigraphic sources, GIS mapping, and visits to sites including Isaura, Dağpazarı, and Gökçeseki.

Hugh Elton was Director of the BIAA (2001-2006) and is now Professor of Ancient Greek and Roman Studies at Trent University in Canada. He directed the Göksu and Avkat surveys as well as working on Late Roman military history and politics, with a particular interest in the Roman Empreror Zeno who came from Isauria.
