BIAA Masters Dissertation Prize Fund Appeal

BIAA

8 September 2022

To encourage scholarship relating to Türkiye and the Black Sea region and support the next generation of scholars, the BIAA has implemented a new initiative: a taught Masters Dissertation Prize for the best dissertation on a topic related to the research areas of the Institute. The prize will be £500 plus three years’ membership of the BIAA.

This new annual prize was open to students completing dissertations for a taught Masters programme (MA, MSt, MPhil) on any topic related to Türkiye and the Black Sea region, from prehistory to the contemporary world. Any dissertation examined and graded as part of a Masters Degree awarded in 2021 or 2022 was eligible.

However, the BIAA needs your help to ensure this initiative can continue for many years to come. Please consider making a donation to the BIAA Masters Dissertation Prize Fund today.

Over the last fifteen years, the BIAA has benefitted enormously from the work of a succession of recent Masters graduates who have held the position of BIAA Research Scholar at the Institute in Ankara after completing their Masters studies and before, in most cases, progressing on to a PhD. Many of these individuals have gone on to hold positions at UK and Turkish Higher Education Institutions, and many outstanding Masters dissertations have provided the basis for excellent academic publications. The creation of this prize is a way for the Institute to recognise the importance of this stage in the development of a young scholar’s career.

To ensure long-term support for this prize, we are asking members and associates of the BIAA to make a contribution to the Prize Fund. Our target is to reach £10,000, which should guarantee continuing awards for the foreseeable future. We are delighted to have already raised nearly half of this goal. Thank you to those who have generously donated to this appeal so far, enabling the launch of the Masters Dissertation Prize this year.

We hope that you will be willing to support this new initiative. To make a contribution, please click here.
