Gonca Özger is an archaeologist and digital heritage specialist whose work focuses on zooarchaeology, archaeological data management, and the digital preservation of cultural heritage collections/archives. Her research interests include human–animal interactions, animal mobility, and herding strategies in prehistoric Anatolia, with particular emphasis on integrating traditional zooarchaeological analysis with digital methodologies. She received her BA in Archaeology from Bilkent University and completed her MSc in Settlement Archaeology at Middle East Technical University in 2021. Her MSc research examined Late Bronze Age animal mobility and herding practices at Šapinuwa (Ortaköy, Türkiye) through geometric morphometric analysis of sheep and goat remains.
Since 2020, she has been working at the British Institute at Ankara, where she currently serves as Digital Repository Assistant Manager. In this role, she contributes to the development, management, and long-term preservation of the Institute’s digital collections and archival infrastructure. Her work includes the digitisation and curation of archaeological and archival collections, metadata and repository management, Linked Open Data initiatives, and the implementation of FAIR-oriented digital heritage practices. She has also contributed to a number of collaborative national and international projects focused on digital archaeology, archival connectivity, and cultural heritage data management
