Elif Neyzi received her PhD in Classics at the University of Edinburgh with a thesis entitled “Monasticism in Late Byzantine Constantinople (1261–1453): Urban, Social, and Institutional History.” Her research interests include the urban topography of Constantinople and social changes in late Byzantium, social history of monasticism, and cultural borrowings in the late medieval Mediterranean. She also has an abiding interest in Reception Studies and has published on the perception of Byzantine women in comparative literature. Her outreach work includes serving as scientific adviser for the Pera Museum’s exhibition ‘Byzantium in Popular Culture’. As the first recepient of the newly-established BIAA-Bilkent University Joint Fellowship, Elif will be finalising her first monograph titled ‘Byzantine Monasteries of Constantinople: Historical Transformation of an Urban Structure in the Late Middle Ages (1204–1453) and will host a podcast series on the reception of Byzantine cultural heritage in Türkiye.
