Aspendos Basilica Survey

Location: near Serik; Antalya Province

Years: 1992

Project Director: Michael Ballance

Government Representatives: Nurhan Turan

Summary:

A minibus and survey equipment loaned by the BIAA made possible an excursion to Aspendos, where for one week Michael Ballance conducted survey work on the basilica there.  His detailed work measuring and studying architectural features allowed more detail to be added to the plans created in 1956.  A close examination of the walls showed that they had been constructed over two phases, and dates for construction were estimated on this basis.
