BIAA Post-doctoral Fellowships

Eligibility Summary

Holders of a PhD awarded within the last two years from a UK HEI in the fields of the arts, humanities and the social sciences. PhD Candidates close to submission are also eligible. Research project related to and/or undertaken in Turkey and the Black Sea littoral.


Application Requirements

Once this is completed it should be emailed to by the deadline. In addition, it is your responsibility to ensure that your referees have sent their letters of support by the deadline (see the application form for details).

It is essential that applicants read the notes of the accompanying word document (see link at the bottom of this page) and the conditions of the fellowship before completing the online application form. 

The Institute welcomes applications for research that fits within one of the Strategic Research Initiatives currently promoted by the Institute. Details about the Strategic Research Initiatives can be found at the website

The Fellowship will be tenable for up to 24 months from 1 September 2018. Based on the submitted research plan, the BIAA will decide upon the duration of the fellowship offered (12 to 24 months). The Fellow will be based at the Institute in Ankara and will be required to spend at least two-thirds of the period of the Fellowship at the institute. The remaining one-third can be spent outside Ankara for research purposes after consultation with the director.

Applications for the Fellowships must be supported by two referees (see details about the references in the conditions & details document below). Note that you are responsible for ensuring that referees submit the references by the closing date of the application. Electronic references only will be accepted. The Institute will not contact the referees. Lack of references will disadvantage an application.


The candidate should normally have completed a doctorate within the last two years at a UK University. Research must cover the fields of the arts, humanities and the social sciences that is related to and/or undertaken in Turkey and the Black Sea littoral.
