The Climate History of Anatolia and the Black Sea |
|
With the environment and climate change top of the current
international agenda, Turkey and its surrounding regions have rich,
under-explored natural archives: lake sediments, tree-rings, peat
deposits and much more. All have important stories to tell about
human interaction with – and use of – the landscape and the world
humans inhabit.

Early
Pleistocene environments in the Gediz river valley
Professor Darrel Maddy (Newcastle University)
The
identification of a perfectly preserved Early Pleistocene river
terrace record presents a unique opportunity to study this time
period in the eastern Mediterranean. The investigation will examine
outcrops for biostratigraphical/ palaeoecological and other climate-proxy
data.
